Drug-related DUIs rose from 200 10 years ago to 4,000 last year.
One of the leading causes seems to be from the availability of prescription drugs to teens.
Ramona Sanchez, with the drug enforcement agency, said prescription drugs are easier to get than before.
“We’ve seen episodes were there’s these pharming parties at home where teenagers get together to where they treat these prescription drugs like candy” Sanchez said.
Sanchez goes on to say that teenagers are comfortable with this because these drugs are “prescribed by a doctor and approved by the FDA.”
