PHOENIX -- A burglary suspect shot by police has died.

Cody Criner, 27, was shot Wednesday afternoon in southeast Phoenix. He had pointed a weapon at police, who then fired. The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun.

Police were called to a house at 44th Street and Elliot Road after a witness reported a burglary was under way.

Officers surrounded the house and Criner eventually ran out of the house. Officers said he reached for a weapon in his pants and pointed it at them.

Criner had been taken to an area hospital.

shooting of a bad guy will be counted as gun violence as they do not separate good shootings from bad shootings or suicides. A shooting is a shooting is a shooting.

    This should be categorized as
suicide by police. Now, we have to ban pellet guns too.

    I don't know
How bad of a guy Cody was, but it's never a good idea to point any weapon at the police who have their guns drawn, always ends up as a bad day.

    Trigger Happy
Just another example of how trigger happy the cops in phoenix are. It's really easy for some ignorant people on here to call Cody a scumbag when they have no idea who he was. There is no doubt in my mind that these cops will walk with little to no investigation of what really happened. Makes me embarrassed to live in AZ.

    another note on this
This is the seventh Valley police shooting since the beginning of this year. That's a lot of police using their guns in a two week period.
