A man and his horse-and-buggy were pulled out of a Mesa canal on Thursday.

Officials said the horse stepped close to the edge of the canal at Greenfield and McKellips to avoid a parked car before falling in about 3 p.m.

The driver and the animal were in the canal for about 20 minutes until crews arrived and pulled them to safety.

Neither were injured.
