Feds take Arizona sex offender into custody
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A convicted sex offender who violated his parole in Arizona has been arrested after being found in Mexico.
The U.S. Marshals Service said Michael Anthony Martinez, 29, was taken into custody Tuesday night at the Lukeville port of entry in southern Arizona.
Authorities said Martinez was found working at a Puerto Penasco resort and deported.
Martinez was convicted in April 2000 for attempted child molestation and attempted sexual conduct with a minor in Maricopa County and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Authorities said Martinez failed to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison and was living in Utah by February 2011.
He was arrested, extradited to Arizona, served a 14-month sentence and was accused of having had contact with a minor while on supervised release before fleeing to Mexico.
