HARTFORD, Conn. -- Some people in Newtown are cheering a new initiative from former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband to try to curb gun violence.

Newtown Selectman Jim Gaston was among the officials who met with Giffords last week when she extended sympathies to relatives of victims from the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary that left 26 people dead.

Gaston said Tuesday that Giffords will have support from the majority of Newtown residents. Frank Monte, a Newtown father who is organizing a bike ride to Washington to call for greater gun control efforts, said he is eager to help Giffords any way he can.

Giffords and Mark Kelly launched a political action committee on gun violence Tuesday, the second anniversary of the Tucson shooting that killed six people and left her critically injured.

Entrenched gun nut opposition will fail
to foil the enactment of more effective gun control measures. Gun nuts see any move to protect little children from crazed killers using assault style weapons with high capacity magazines as an attack on the gun nut's manhood. The parents of these dead children will win the day.

    Way to move from
Racism to Sexism Micho! But since you asked, her family can't shut her up, let alone thinking I would have a chance to shut her up. Kinda stupid if you ask me, she has opinions that she shares and I listen. See we have a relationship where we respect each other and we each take turns talking and listening even if we lean different way politically and we always come to an understanding. I used to show you respect Micho but I learned that you never ever give respect back when someone believes in the opposite of you, I don't believe you will ever be able to earn my respect back.

    Your disappointment in me notwithstanding,
expect movement on restrictions on the assault style weapons and their high capacity magazines so beloved by you, your GF and mass murderers.

    Hey Micho
How many mass murderers out there used "assault style weapons" with high capacity magazines? By the way, it's the Constitution beloved by us, which you clearly don't love. And Micho, what is an "assault style weapons"? A vehicle? A bicycle? A shoe? A fist? A bat? A fork? A banana? What? We should really move on restrictions on vehicles because more people are killed by them a year than guns, more family lose little children than those killed by guns, you are absolutly right, go after the assault style weapons called cars!

    Good thinking, 1.
Lots of laws, government regulation, registration, insuring and enforcement activities directed at motor vehicles. I am encouraged that you equate this to gun ownership which also needs more of same.

    Well we better
put seat belts, airbags, crumble zones in guns then. Oh wait, the laws on the books don't stop idiots from drunk driving and killing entire families. It doesn't stop a truck packed to the max with illegal immigrants and they happen to get in a wreck and kill those illegals. But thanks for telling me how many mass murderers in the used "assault style weapons". Come to think of it though, most of the mass murderers in the world used assault style weapons after disarming their citizens. Can't deny that fact Micho.
