Deputy Ruben Garcia (Maricopa County Sheriff's Office photo)

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP)- A Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being shot in Peoria.

The suspect sought in the shooting has been found dead. He's identified as 54-year-old Donald Miller Sr. of Peoria.

Authorities identify the deputy as Ruben Garcia, who's a 29-year veteran.

He was shot multiple times in a Peoria lot early Tuesday after he stopped a man in a truck.

Donald Miller Sr.

The man's former girlfriend had earlier called authorities to say he was suicidal.

Witnesses say they heard shots ring out and saw the deputy on the ground in the parking lot.

Two Peoria police officers, Lt. Steve Hadley and Officer Aaron brewer, spotted the suspect, who fired at officers and was then shot.

SWAT team officers ultimately found Miller dead in a vehicle. Authorities say it's still unclear if he committed suicide.

I guess you didn't go to Sunday school. Ever heard of..."love thy enemy"??? yep...Jesus said it. He also said, "feed the poor, take care of the sick, visit the ones in prison and shelter the homeless". I guess that is not part of your agenda.

"3. Across states, more guns = more suicide.
Harvard: Using a validated proxy for firearm ownership rates, we analyzed the relationship between firearm availability and suicide across 50 states over a ten year period...After controlling for poverty and urbanization, for every age group, across the United States, people in states with many guns have elevated rates of suicide, particularly firearm suicide." Just sayin'.

    3. High rates of homicide followed by suicide
in U.S. likely due to firearm access. Harvard: "In a comparison of homicides-suicides in the Netherlands, Switzerland and the United States (using NVDRS data), major differences—e.g., Switzerland and the US have much higher rates of homicide-suicide than the Netherlands—are explainable by the availability of firearms." Just sayin'.

    Chemist, seeing how you are
holier than thou, can we send some poor, sick, homeless enemies to your house for food, shelter, and love? Didn't think so. Sorry, just using my 1st Amendment right. Dirt bag shot a cop, thankfully he had the courage to off himself and save the tax payers a few dollars.

    Well Micho,
I don't think it takes a PHD or years of research to know that using a firearm for homicides-suicides is easier than using a knife or rock. But I would think the high rate of homicides and suicides would be an indication of the overall mental state, stress level, and lawlessness of a particular population. So is it gun control, religion, family support, mental health support, or what that could have prevented this?

Well said yrreta! Who are all these bleeding hearts with such compassion for a pile of crap who shot a cop?? Yeah - he is dead and we don't have to go to trial to find out he is guilty. How did this get into gun control??? You can bet the POC didn't register the gun he used to shoot the deputy. The bleeding hearts will feel better after they have their car wash to bury the dirt bag.

So...based on your "logic", Jesus was an extremist socialist that believed in "love thy enemy", "feed the poor", "take care of the orphans", "visit the ones in prison", "shelter the homeless"? Sorry...but not very "Christian" from you...FOOD FOR THOUGHT
