PHOENIX — A Phoenix police officer has undergone surgery after being shot six times and authorities say the suspect is facing attempted murder charges.
Police say 36-year-old officer Peter Bennett is recovering from gunshot wounds to the right side of his face, his right hip and right arm. He had surgery Monday.
Bennett was shot Sunday night when police say he approached a man on a bicycle in an area with a high rate of burglaries. The man then fled.
Police sealed off the area and found a 28-year-old man hiding in a shed. The suspect's name hasn't been released yet, but police officials say he has a prior felony conviction.
They say the suspect remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds to both hands and injuries after being bitten by a police dog.
