YUMA, Ariz. -- Authorities said a City of Maricopa man is in custody, accused of trying to rob a bank in Yuma last month.

Yuma police said Christopher Montiel, 39, was arrested Thursday in the Phoenix suburb on unrelated charges.

While being interviewed by Maricopa police, Montiel is said to have admitted to attempting to rob the Mohave State Bank on Dec. 11.

Witnesses said a man entered the bank wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses. He handed a teller a note and also verbally demanded money.

No weapon was seen and authorities said the suspect left the bank without getting any money and fled the scene in a car.

Yuma police said they obtained a felony warrant for Montiel. He'll be transported to the Yuma County Adult Detention Center from the Pinal County Detention Center.
