PHOENIX -- Arizona officials said some Arizona youths apparently are getting marijuana from people with state-issued medical marijuana cards.

Survey findings said roughly 1 of every 10 Arizona school students in grades 8, 10 and 12 who reported recent marijuana use said they got it from a cardholder.

Friends, parties and relatives were identified far more frequently as marijuana sources by those students who reported recent use.

The findings are reported in the 2012 Arizona Youth Survey conducted last spring. The survey provides authorities with information on substance abuse, school safety and antisocial behavior.

Arizona voters approved a medical marijuana law in 2010. More than 30,000 people have obtained cars authorizing them to use it for certain medical conditions.

    Very misleading title
Is this an emerging anti-legalization stance? Considering that the article clearly says that friends, parties and relatives are far more likely sources, I think that we should also consider the fact that the cardholder is a friend, or relative. However, I would prefer that the source is from a card holder over a drug dealer. Legalize it, tax it.

no instead of driving to a seedy area or getting involved with a criminal kids are getting it from people they know. "Won't somebody please think of the children!!!". Tax it already. Stop this failed war on drugs.

    Surprised? Not really.
As sad as it is I am not really surprised to see this article come out. When you legalize a drug (at least on a state level, as far as I understand it is still a federal crime) that is in its very nature addictive, is it so surprising that people will do what they can to get a hold of it, even if they have to bypass the legal channels for obtaining it. I know that people say the war on drugs can't be won, but is surrendering and facing these types of consequences acceptable?

Just like with prohibition, you cannot prevent what's in demand. Legalize and tax it. More people die every year from cigarettes or alcohol, than they do from marijuana. At least if it's legalized, you'd be less likely to get it laced with something else or get shot by drug dealers. You can still nail people for DUI's if they are high and some jobs may require non-marijuana use for insurance or certain kinds of jobs. I'm ok with that.
