When students in the Kyrene School District return from winter break, they will be greeted by new security procedures.

According to the Ahwatukee Foothill News, the changes were spurred by the recent shootings in Newtown, Conn.

"I have designated a Safety Committee that will include the expertise of law enforcement officials to continue this work on an ongoing basis," said Superintendent Dr. David Schauer in a letter to parents last week.

Beginning Jan 7., all visitors to schools in the district will have to report to the front office before entering the campus and will have to surrender a photo ID to receive a visitor's badge.

When leaving the school, visitors will have to return the badge in order to get their ID returned to them.

    And
how is this going to help? Yes, someone hell bent on killing people will follow your rules. Check in, check out , need that ID back. Sandy Hook had a locked door that you had to be buzzed in. Didn't stop him. Stupid Idea.

    Kyrene School Policy
Ridiculous, unless someone is doing a body search first. Most schools have a "report to office" first policy. Don't know what the solution is, but the bandaid Kyrene is putting on a large open wound is already soaked in blood.
