A majority of American citizens feel that a child born to a mother who is an illegal immigrant in the United States should not be a legalized citizen, a survey showed.

According to Rasmussen Reports, a record number of Americans -- though still a minority -- now believe those children should be citizens.

About 41 percent of Americans feel the children should be citizens and 51 percent oppose the idea.

The survey was taken of 1,000 likely voters and has a 95 percent level of confidence.

    we don't run this country based on Polls...some people just don't love the constitution the way I do.

    It would be a huge insult to Legal Immigrants. It sends the wrong message to everyone. Come cross our border the wrong way and if you can escape the desert heat, human smuggling and drug cartels have or kids here and they are instant citizens makes no sense.

    Because they are not subject to US jurisdiction. They are subject to their parent(s) who are subject to a foreign gov. The was the whole intent of sponsoring a parent when the child turned 18. Gross misinterpretations and bleeding heart anti-Constitution liberals put up such a stink about it over such a long time it has morphed into the norm. At least the Russians/Ukraine/Chinese/Cubans did it half right by having one of the parents a citizen.

    Excellent news story. Finally this is getting the attention it needs. Government is FOR THE PEOPLE / BY THE PEOPLE so lets get this on the ballot and have the AMERICAN CITIZENS vote on this and then make it the LAW OF THE LAND ! and then have Sheriff Joe and others like him that truly ENFORCE the laws do what they need to do !........... Let's Demand This on the ballot

    The constitution doesn't say illegal aliens born here are us citizens. What it does say is slaves were considered citizens.

    not be here if their immigrant parents would not have crossed the pond... and now they're saying for baby's not to be a us citizen if they're born to an immigrant parent? hmm... aren't we all anchor babies (except for the natives and some mexicans) just a thought!
