SAN LUIS, Ariz. -- Authorities said a man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle assault weapon magazines out of the U.S. into Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said the Mexican national was arrested this weekend at the Port of San Luis as the 20-year-old was attempting to cross the border.

They said they discovered 80 ammunition magazines for AK-47 assault rifles in his vehicle.

The case has been turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations unit for further review.
