PHOENIX -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer says she doesn't know what should be done to make schools safer in the wake of the Connecticut mass shooting. But she says the answer might lie more with behavioral health services than with gun control.

After not answering a reporter's question about whether a federal ban on so-called assault weapons should be reinstated, Brewer said she's not sure that the constitutional right to bear arms should be a focus of any response.

However, she called the shooting ``absolutely horrific'' and said it could help to have a strong behavioral health system.

Again the Medical costs debacle could be to blame
My wife worked a patient advocate for the patients who has Physiological issues who were being released into the streets because of the cost of healthcare for them. She was working with federal and state programs to provide the needed medications to keep these people in control of themselves with prescribed medication they could not afford. We have a population of people out there who had be diagnosed as having mental issues and they have need for medication, with no assistance.

Republican governors love cutting mental health
budgets. "Until recently, Arizona had one of the most generous benefits packages for mental health treatment, largely as a result of the settlement of a 1989 class-action lawsuit and a state law guaranteeing assistance to the mentally ill. But last year, the program began to shrink. The state cut counseling, case management, voluntary hospitalization, brand-name medication and numerous other services for non-Medicaid patients. Ms. Brewer, a Republican, is also proposing cuts in eligibility for Medicaid, which is the largest insurer of public mental health services."

You should actually look at Obamacare cutting Medicaid. My left wing Obama loving girlfriend who works with mentally disabled people who gets their funding through Medicaid informed me that your beloved Obama and his Obamacare is cutting Medicaid. Wake up, it's not just the Republicans doing the cutting as you want people to believe!

Don't think so, 1:1. Pros in the field say
the following: "Although many...provisions will take years to...implement, this is Psych Central’s analysis of the Affordable Care Act, as it pertains to mental health care: Mental health care will become more accessible...With more people obtaining either private insurance or joining an expanded Medicaid program, the bet is that more people...have inexpensive access to mental health treatment. People won’t be denied coverage based upon their pre-existing condition. This is huge for many people with mental health concerns." Obama has to work against Republican resistance.

    So weird
that my girlfriend and many other people she works with say that Obamacare will be cutting back funding for the people she works with (mentally disabled) and that Obamacare negatively effects them. She still voted for Obama this last election even though this is in the plans to happen. I'll take her first hand experience and knowledge over your well your left wing spoon fed attempt at how things are which usually is wrong. You have fun continuing to lie and blame everyone but yourself.

    I am curious Micho
Why the sorry attempt at blaming Republicans for this but with the gun running and deadly Democratic run Fast and Furious by Eric Holder and possible coverup by Obama, you hardly make a peep? I mean I know the actual truthful answer but I just want to see what lies you will come up with for this one. Thanks!

    The Governor is correct
Mental health care in this country is outrageous, since state hospitals, institutions were closed the mass shootings started. When these sick people are allowed to wander our streets they can do whatever they want. There is no help for average people to get help for children or adult mental patients and are forced to try to deal with them at home and can not control them. They are dangerous. People have to work and can't watch people 24/7. Get A DECENT MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM to get help before it comes to these mass shootings!
