LAS VEGAS -- A man and woman are dead and the White Pine County sheriff and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of a small plane crash over the weekend in a rugged and remote area in eastern Nevada.
Clark County Coroner Michael Murphy said Monday that medical examiners in his office in Las Vegas are handling the bodies of a husband and wife who died in the crash about 10 a.m. Saturday about 19 miles southeast of Ely. Their names and hometown weren't immediately made public.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the couple flew out of Mesa, Ariz., in a single-engine Piper PA31 aircraft, on their way to the Portland-Troutdale Airport in Oregon.
Ely is about 250 miles north of Las Vegas.
