KALISPELL, Mont. -- An Arizona man's car struck a signal light pole in Whitefish, causing blunt force injuries that killed him.

Flathead County Undersheriff Dave Leib said Bryan Melling, 27, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was northbound on U.S. 93 at 2:45 a.m. Sunday when his vehicle went off the road and hit the pole. The Daily Inter Lake reported Melling was not wearing a seat belt and was pinned in the car.

Leib said speed was a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
