FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Flagstaff police have subdued a suicidal man who fired shots and held officers at bay for about eight hours.

Police say they were called to a home Friday night and learned the 27-year-old man planned to commit "suicide by cop."

Sgt. James Jackson says a SWAT team was called and negotiators began trying to convince the man to surrender. Several times officers heard gunshots and the man would then stick his head out a window and taunt officers. They never fired because he didn't point his gun.

The SWAT team finally rushed in and shocked the man with a Taser. He was arrested for disturbing the peace and receive a mental evaluation.

Chief Kevin Treadway praised his officers for their restraint and focus on the department's mission to preserve life.

So now he's going to go to jail instead? I'm sure he'll be much better off in jail than being suicidal at home.
