PHOENIX — Gov. Jan Brewer has appointed a deputy county attorney in Maricopa County to a judgeship.

Brewer announced Friday that Suzanne Cohen will serve at the Maricopa County Superior Court.

Brewer says Cohen is an accomplished attorney who has worked on some of the most serious and high-profile cases in Arizona. That includes Phoenix's Baseline Killer case and the deaths of a couple in Paradise Valley.

Cohen fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge John Buttrick.

She had been a deputy Maricopa County attorney since 2000.
