A Postal Service vehicle is shown after being involved in a single-vehicle crash. (Pinal County Sheriff's Office)

An Apache Junction, Ariz. Postal Service worker was impaled by a pole Monday in a single-vehicle accident, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said.

An investigation showed the 57-year-old female's postal vehicle drifted off the road for unknown reasons. It then struck a pole and chain link fence along the roadside.

Two of the poles penetrated the vehicle, one of which struck the driver, continued through her body and came to rest in the seat.

The driver, who was not named, was taken to a local hospital with a life-threatening injury.

PCSO said neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the incident.
