A Norwegian man was killed Tuesday after attempting a base jump at the Grand Canyon.

The 37-year-old man, an experienced base jumper, was blown into a canyon wall by a gust of wind during the 1,000 foot jump. Witnesses said the victim's parachute deployed, but failed to operate properly.

Witnesses also said they heard the man's body strike the canyon floor.

The body was removed from the canyon on Wednesday morning.
