PHOENIX -- A teenager accused of helping his uncle rob and fatally shoot an Arizona State University honor student will serve 17 years in prison.

The Arizona Republic reports a Maricopa County Superior Court judge on Friday ordered 19-year-old Marion Patterson to serve time for the killing as well as five years for violating parole.

Patterson will be able to serve the sentences concurrently.

Patterson, who prosecutors say was not the shooter, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Prosecutors say his uncle, 21-year-old Louis Harper, shot 21-year-old Zachary Marco on Oct. 17, 2010 while Marco was walking in Tempe. Police believe Marco was killed for his cellphone and laptop computer.

Harper, who pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, was sentenced last month to life in prison.
