CHANDLER, Ariz. -- A man who pleaded guilty to a first-degree murder charge for killing a Chandler woman inside a vacant house has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Jaime Coronado, 34, avoided a possible death sentence by pleading guilty to killing Michelle Melinda Morales, 41, in a plea agreement with prosecutors earlier this month. Her body was found on the floor of a vacant house on March 1, 2010.

Coronado was arrested the next day by U.S. marshals.

A court spokeswoman said Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Warren Granville sentenced Coronado on Wednesday.
