TUCSON, Ariz. -- Congressman Ron Barber's office says the Arizona Democrat is doing well after undergoing what it calls ``minor surgery'' to remove a cancerous tumor from his tongue.

The office says Barber had the surgery Monday and was released from a hospital Tuesday.

A statement quotes Dr. Audrey Erman as saying the surgery was successful and that Barber is expected to make a full recovery.

The statement says Barber learned of the tumor on Nov. 13, a week after he won a full two-year term from Arizona's 2nd Congressional District.

Barber's office says he's feeling good and staying in Tucson this week but looking forward to returning to work in Washington next week.

Barber was a former aide to Gabrielle Giffords. Both were wounded in a January 2011 mass shooting in Tucson.

    Forked tongue
First, I am glad that he is OK. Second, I hope that this surgery for a forked tongue takes. Speaking with a forked tongue is a common ailment among politicians. It would be nice to have a politician who speaks without a forked tongue. Hopefully, the surgery for plugged ears will go as well. A politician who does not avoid questions, lie, and actually listens to the people would be a good thing.
Politically incorrect and proud of it.

    Bearman,
politicians and listening to the people...that's like oil and water my friend, it will never mix. Greed and power's too much for today's politician who lack integrity, discipline, restrain and much more.
