TUCSON, Ariz. -- Tucson authorities have identified a 62-year-old man who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train.

Police with Union Pacific Railroad and the Tucson Fire Department were called out Sunday night to the Amtrak station along North Toole Avenue. They found Charles Heffington. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigation shows the train was headed west when the crew noticed a man sitting near the outside of the track.

Authorities say the train's operator activated the emergency brake and sounded the horn, but the train wasn't able to stop in time.
