NOGALES, Ariz. -- Federal officials said a Tucson man is facing charges after he tried smuggling more than 425 pounds of marijuana inside a shipment of piņatas.

KPHO-TV reported that Juan Marcelo Armstrong, 24, was detained Monday after he tried to enter the U.S. through the Mariposa Port of Entry in Nogales.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said a narcotics detection canine alerted agents to the piņatas in the bed of his vehicle.

Hours later agents at the same port of entry detained Pedro de Jesus Magana-Caballero, 28, of Sonora, Mexico, after a drug dog directed authorities to methamphetamine in the oil pan of his vehicle.

Both men were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.

It was unclear if either man had attorneys.

Don't worry, the borders are safe,
all that pot was going to go to Washington and Colorado. Juan is just a farmer with that pot trying to make a living. That was not pot from the cartels, honest. And I bet jesus just borrowed a friends car not knowing what was in the oil pan, just an honest mistake.
