Tucson officer shot in head, suspect outstanding
TUCSON -- Tucson's police chief says an officer is recovering following surgery for a bullet wound to the head and a search is on for the suspect.
Chief Roberto Villasenor says Sgt. Robert Carpenter was talking and aware of his surroundings after being shot just before dawn Sunday.
KVOA-TV in Tucson reports Carpenter was among officers who responded to a home in the city's midtown at about 5:15 a.m. break-in call. No suspects were immediately found and officers were standing outside the house when they heard a loud noise and Carpenter fell wounded.
Police are looking for a 20- to 30-year-old Hispanic man with balding hair, weighing about 160 pounds, wearing a dark blue jersey with "43" on it and blue.
