PEORIA, Ariz. -- Prowling young coyotes are causing concern in some parts of the Valley.

This time of year coyotes wander in to populated neighborhoods as they search for water, food and shelter.

There have been recent reports in schools, parks and near homes.

Amanda Jacinto with the Peoria Police Department said residents should never try to feed or catch a wild animal, but it's OK -- from a safe distance -- to try to scare a coyote away.

"Shout, bang pots and pans, wave large objects. They're pretty skittish when it comes to human beings," Jacinto said.

Jacinto also suggested spraying a coyote with a garden hose to get them to leave a yard.

If none of these measures are successful, call local police.

To these wily critters. They have wandered in and out of neighborhoods near South Mountain Park daily for as long as we've lived here. They keep the cat population in check.

    I finally agree with Micho
aint nothing wrong with keeping the stray cat population in check. Tired of finding their little tootsie rolls half buried in my yard, and my car tires wreaking of cat urine.
