Car making U-turn in Phoenix hit by light-rail train

PHOENIX -- Authorities say a car trying to make a U-turn on Phoenix's Central Avenue disregarded traffic signals and was hit by a light-rail train.
Phoenix police say two passengers on the train suffered minor injuries when the emergency brakes were applied Friday afternoon and were taken to a Phoenix hospital.
The car's 18-year-old driver escaped injury.
The Arizona Republic says police are interviewing the driver, whose name hasn't been released by police.
The train operator saw the driver parked in the middle of the tracks and applied the emergency brakes. This allowed the train to slow down enough to strike the rear driver's-side door instead of the driver's-side door.
