At approximately 2:20 a.m., the Phoenix fire department responded to a fire alarm going off at the Willow Springs Apartment on 27th Avenue.
The dispatched crews found 12 apartments affected by heavy fire, and four children were transported to a nearby hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Four adults were also treated on the scene for what was determined to be minor injuries.
The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter opened a fully-functional shelter at Metro Tech High School Sunday to the more than 30 people displaced by the morning fire, offering food, shower space, as well as emotional and medical support.
