Phoenix police have made the agency's first arrest under the so-called "show me your papers" provision of SB 1070.

The arrest happened Tuesday near 24th St. and Jefferson when police stopped a vehicle after it made an illegal turn. Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the driver didn't have a driver's license when questioned by police, so the officer contact Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

"There was facts and circumstances that led him to believe that the individual was illegally in the country," he said. "Based upon that, he contacted ICE. ICE interviewed the individual over the phone and the agent told the officer to go ahead and bring them down to ICE for further questioning."

Thompson said ICE also talked to two other passengers over the phone.

The driver is facing two traffic citations.

The vehicle was seized by police.

What? We all carry papers - otherwise known as Driver's Licenses ~I don't leave home without it, and I'm a white girl. Reverse descrimination is rampant.

    What's Amazing
...is how much time, effort, and money is spent on keeping those evil Mexican gardeners and maids out of the country. Brain cells are in short supply here in Arizona! Most of the tea buggers left their brain cells in their home states before they retired on their socialist, government handout social security checks and came to the desert.

    its the law...
to always have some form of identification on you. Either its your passport, driver license, some sort of state ID, ect. ITS THE LAW. You can't expect to get pulled over, not have any identifying papers/ID's on you and expect to not get arrested or harassed. I am white, and if I was arrested for not carrying my driver license on me, I would expect to be arrested or have my car repossessed. What about this "show me your papers" law do people not get? I can't drive in Mexico without a form of identification, and expect everything to be ok.

    STOP the sniveling!
I am an American born citizen and yet while I drive a vehicle I am obligated to carry & show a valid driver’s license when requested by law enforcement. It’s the law & I don’t feel it a hardship to follow the laws & regulations established. To the naturalized citizen above, I believe if you have some form of government issued (American) ID would be proof enough of citizenship.

The original tea partyers were lawbreakers
in their time. Breaking duly enacted laws and destroying others property to make their points. When members of the current tea party see people today doing the exact same things that their founders did, they are horrified. Just like the Brits of the 1800's, today's tea partyers demand that the lawbreakers be stopped. Today's tea partyers are a big band of hypocrites.
