SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Not everyone is happy about a new entertainment complex planned for Scottsdale.

The construction site sits in one of the most popular party areas of Oldtown Scottsdale. The Scottsdale retail plaza on Shoeman Lane, just east of Scottsdale and Camelbacks roads, is slated to be home to a new indoor-outdoor beach club and two more bars.

People who live nearby fear the new complex will cause even more congestion and illegal parking on a block that already has a limited number of spots.

Mayor Jim Lane said the city is working to prevent any disturbance.

"We want to make sure that it works for everybody," he said. "Certainly we're working always to try to mitigate any kind of difficulty."

Lane said the businesses have agreed to a number of stipulations, including keeping the loud music indoors. The complex is set to open by the beginning of next year.

The mayor is very concerned about the residents. But that this complex is actually just an "enhancement". So you see, there is nothing to be alarmed about.

Strapped Economy / No Jobs, yet they keep opening these places and people keep spending money they're going to wish they didn't in about 10- or 12 years from now, maybe less. The operators of these places will be smiling all the way to the bank but the hard earned dollars of the working people need to be conserved. Crazy how the Lazy end up on top. You'd think the working class would be smarter than they act . Live & Learn I suppose.

    Jim Lanes word's ring hollow...
"Mayor Jim Lane said the city is working to prevent any disturbance in liquor tax revenue." There we go, much more accurate. Thank god I don't reside in the Old Town area. The longtime residents have every right to feel betrayed by their elected officials.
