Arizona ranks second in the nation when it comes to the installation of solar systems, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said on Tuesday.

"This is fantastic news, and further illustrates how Arizona has become a national leader in the development of solar power," said Brewer in a release. "This means not only clean, renewable energy, but also quality jobs for Arizonans."

Arizona saw a jump from 63 megawatts to 173 megawatts of solar power that have been installed since March.

Arizona only trails California in terms of megawatts produced from solar power.

In 2011, Arizona ranked third overall for the number of solar-related jobs in the nation.

    Solar would be more viable
if it wasn't vulnerable to heat. Just like wind driven devices which can't rotate past a certain speed which generates too much heat neutralizing electrical conduction. AZ is not that great of a place for effective solar power. Don't waste money putting in systems that are more effective in other places/climates.
