California mango recall could affect Arizona

Aug 30, 2012, 6:03 PM | Updated: 6:03 pm

A voluntary recall of one million mangoes that may be contaminated with Salmonella could affect Arizona.

According to CNN, the recalled mangoes were sold in Costco, Whole Foods and Kroger stores, which have locations in Arizona, and Save Mart Supermarkets, Food 4 Less, Ralph’s, Topco stores, El Super, Giant-Eagle, Stop & Shop and Aldi stores that do not have Arizona locations.

Federal, state and Canadian officials are investigating “a multistate cluster” of 103 Salmonella Braenderup infections, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said. Preliminary information indicates that mangoes are a likely source for the illnesses. and U.S. officials are trying to determine the source of mangoes that may be linked to U.S. cases, the FDA said.

The possibly dangerous mangoes were shipped nationwide in 100,000 cases. All will have PLU numbers of 3114, 4051, 4311, 4584 or 4959. The mangoes, picked in Mexico, were sold in the United States from July 12 to Aug. 29.

The distributor, Splendid Products, said it was still working to determine where each case was shipped and how many states are affected.
