PHOENIX -- Sales tax revenues continue to improve in cities in southwestern metro Phoenix.

The Arizona Republic reported that Goodyear and Avondale reported two consecutive years of overall sales-tax revenue growth.

Buckeye also has seen those revenues rise, if construction sales taxes aren't factored in.

City workers were let go and services were cut to make up for the shortfalls when sales-tax collections began to tumble in 2008 as a result of the economic downturn.

All three cities project that sales-tax revenue will increase next year.

Goodyear, Buckeye and Avondale could see those sales-tax hauls rise by single-digit percentages in fiscal 2013 which began on July 1.
