PHOENIX -— The number of people who died in motor vehicle crashes on Arizona's roadways increased in 2011 for the first time in five years.

A report by the Arizona Department of Transportation says 825 people died in motor vehicle crashes in Arizona last year.

That's an 8 percent increase from 759 fatalities in 2010.

Fatal motorcycle fatalities rose sharply during 2011.

One hundred and thirty-two motorcycle riders and passengers were killed during 2011, compared with 85 such deaths in 2010.

The highest number of traffic fatalities in Arizona came during 2006 when 1,301 people were killed.

Lack of highway enforcement, removal of the photo enforcement, and light sentences for traffic offenders involved in fatal crashes. It all correlates.Cameras came down in early 11.Now you can drive the freeways for days without seeing a patrol car, and the rush hour is a free for all.High speed aggressive drivers and those with no respect for the law illegally using the carpool lanes. And what about the recent conviction only for manslaughter for the meth head who killed four motorcyclists with his dump truck. That was a clear case of 2nd degree murder. The whole picture is no surprise to me.

Whatever Failure of the justice system....The taking down of photo cameras had nothing to do with it.. If you actually read the article there was a huge increase in motorcycle deaths. And guess what the cameras won't help prevent those deaths. Plus it did not say if the death increases were in rural or metropolitan areas. plus it did not say how weather conditions added to these deaths, Plus you named ONE accident that killed a few bikers. And if you don't see the cops then you are blind or to busy texting because they are EVERYWHERE..
