Memorial held for Alex Teves

Jul 28, 2012, 4:10 PM | Updated: 7:42 pm

The Ahwatukee man killed in the Colorado massacre is
remembered as a kind man with a big heart. 24-year-old
Alex Teves took a bullet for his girlfriend Amanda as he
tried to protect her from the move theater gunman.

Two memorial services were held Saturday for friends and
family. The first was at Corpus Christi Catholic Church
where his dad spoke to reporters. Tom Teves gripped his
son’s ashes as he told the crowd what a good person Alex
was. “He put people first, always. I’d like to encourage
people to put people first. If we do that the world will
be a better place.”, said Teves.

With teary eyes he explained the loss of his son should
serve as a reminder to treat other people with respect.
“We might all want to take a step back and hug our kids.
The next time we want to get angry at somebody maybe we’ll
think twice,” said Teves.

The second memorial was held at Desert Vista High School,
where Alex graduated. His former classmate Alex Tighe said
that Alex was funny and kind to other students. He was
known for wearing his signature fashion trademark, blue
jeans and a white T-shirt. “Alex and I took Spanish
together in high school. We sat around for a few hours
after school and all I remember is laughing,” Tighe said.

Hundreds of people attended the services. Most of them
were wearing blue jeans and white T-shirts.

Teves, who also attended The Univesity of Arizona,
recently earned his Masters in Psychology from the
University of Denver.
