PHOENIX -— The Arizona National Guard is sending some of its soldiers to Afghanistan to help advise and assist police forces.

The Guard says the 37 soldiers going are assigned to three security force assistance teams of the 1st Battalion of the 158th Infantry Regiment.

They will participate in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at a Guard installation in Phoenix to mark their scheduled deployment to Afghanistan.

The soldiers will first go to Camp Shelby, Miss., for 12 weeks of training.

The Guard says the soldiers being deployed are from a number of communities in Arizona as well as two in California.

What a great use of our money!
Not only can we put our boys in harms way, but we can send funds offshore. Does it sound selfish to wonder why funds arent channeled into a more local undertaking like improving our infrastructure so we dont continue to slip into third world status?
