The Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff will be unveiling its new $53 million facility tomorrow that will house the Discovery Channel Telescope.

KTAR's Dr. Sky said the massive telescope is over 14 feet in diameter and will provide invaluable research to astronomy.

"Astronomers can simultaneously take images and find out the chemical composition of objects -- stars, planets, galaxies -- with what we call a spectroscope, and, at the same time, similarly observe an image through this rather large telescope."

The Discovery Channel plans to air its first major feature on the telescope around Labor Day this year.
