Hotel rooms sales in Tempe are booming.
The city’s Tourism Office said hotel receipts went up over 4.5 percent in the last year.
Stephanie Nowack, president and CEO of Tempe Tourism Office, attributed the spike in the range of activities and trendy areas around the city.
“We have Tempe Town Lake, we have Arizona State University, we have, of course, the Mill Avenue area,” she said. “This spring, we were very, very fortunate to add to the Los Angeles Angels [of Anaheim] roster one of the most popular baseball players in the country, Albert Pujols.”
Nowack said the city has been aggressive in convincing tourists from colder climates and nearby states to stay in the Valley. The marketing campaigns targeted Denver, Mexico and Canada, she said.
Nowack said March was the busiest month for visitors coming for spring training.
Other cities around the Valley also experienced a boost in sales.
