PHOENIX — A family spokesman said Karl Eller, whose name adorns the
University of Arizona business college, has been brought out of a medically
induced coma after a bicycle fall in California.
The Arizona Republic reported that his family said Eller, 84,
this past weekend was taken off a respirator, and his doctors at Scripps
Memorial Hospital La Jolla are optimistic he will make a full recovery.
His wife, Stevie Eller, said her husband fell as he was getting
onto his bicycle during an early-morning ride June 15.
The fall resulted in fractures on Eller’s right side and broken bones near his
ear.
In 1968, Eller became a founding investor of the Phoenix Suns and went on to help found the Fiesta Bowl.
