LAS VEGAS — Police and family members of an Arizona woman say the 22- year-old pre-med student fell to her death from her Las Vegas Strip hotel room after taking Ecstasy.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Emily McCaughan died early Monday after falling from the 27th floor at the Circus Circus hotel to a roof on the third floor.

Family spokeswoman Mignonne Walstad says McCaughan panicked after taking the drug and went back to the hotel without her friends.

The Review-Journal says a Clark County medical examiner confirmed McCaughan's death on Friday but hadn't announced an official cause of death. Police on Saturday were still investigating the circumstances of her fall.

McCaughan was a student at the University of Arizona. Her family held a memorial service for her in Scottsdale on Saturday.

What this family member just thought it was OK that they all be tripping around on Ecstasy. Then leaves her alone. Which one of you put it in what every she eat or drank. If your a per-med student I would think you would have enough brains yourself to stay away from such crap. Shame on you for letting her go back to the hotel her self.

    Pre-Med
Taking ecstasy? Wow, I thought people who were that smart had more common sense. Then again, anyone stupid enough to ingest something like that, on their own, doesn't seem to be all-that bright. Back in Jr. High, they might have taught her about drugs. Then again, most of those programs have been hacked. Friends and family members that were there should be ashamed, if not charged.

    Wow!
Wow Solitaire. If you had read the article, you would not be shaming a family going through so much pain already when it clearly stated that she was with friends. Her friends did make an error in judgement, but who are we to punish them even more than they are probably already punishing themselves? Apparently you have never made mistakes or poor choices. It is a tragedy. Hopefully this will serve as a warning to those thinking about doing drugs, but most feel they are invincible and that it could never happen to them anyway. My heart goes out to the friends and family of this young woman.
