With so many multi-generational and blended families, we’re getting better with raising kids.

Harvey Merriam, author of “Three Steps To Easy Parenting: How to Raise Smarter, Happier, more Responsible Children… by Doing Less” told News/Talk 92.3 KTAR’s Mac Watson and Larry Gaydos “We are a very contentious generation of parents.”

He also said that kids are better off now then they have ever been before.

His three steps to easy parenting include not hurting our kids, not being harsh with them and being nice to them all the time.

“No matter what they do, we can always find a way to treat them kindly and gently and correct whatever problems come up.”

Merriam said that there is a difference between spoiling your children and being nice to them.

“Crying is both a distress signal and a healing process. Parents tend to treat it all like a distress signal,” he said. “They train their kids to want something when they’re upset instead of just crying until they feel better.”
