Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer: Education reform will come with accountability

When it comes to reforming Arizona education, Gov. Jan Brewer said that accountability is key.
“We need accountability,” Brewer told News/Talk 92.3 KTAR’s Mac & Gaydos. “We need to set our standards high and then we need to have accountability. We need to have the very best teachers in our classrooms and we need to reward those teachers.”
Brewer said holding teachers accountable to both parents and students is part of her reform plan for the state.
Despite the work she’s already done through the temporary, voter-approved sales tax to expire in 2013, Brewer spoke out against Proposition 204, which would put a permanent tax in place.
“The initiative with Proposition 204 is not an extension of my tax,” she said.
