PHOENIX — Lace up your shoes and get training, Phoenix athletes, because you could win some big bucks come November.
The 2015 3TV Phoenix 10K and Half Marathon is hoping to financially reward two fleet-of-foot runners after the Nov. 1 race — it’s 40th running.
“We’re going to give out $1,040 to the first male and first female that break the race record,” race director Harvey Beller said.
To win the money, a male runner will have to complete the course in less than 28:10 while a female runner will have to beat a time of 32:35.
“It’s been nearly 20 years since the Phoenix 10K records were set,” Beller said. “There’s a good chance the records could be broken this year because the 2015 course is flat and very fast.”
While not everyone can win the prize, Beller said every finisher will be given a special token.
“You get a custom medal with a custom ribbon that’s give to all the finishers of the half-marathon,” he said, adding those that finish the 10K and 5K runs are eligible for age group medals.
Registration for the event is available online. Proceeds from the race benefit the Mollen Foundation, a group that works to prevent childhood obesity by promoting an active, healthy lifestyle.
