A Pinal County sex offender was arrested on Wednesday after being deported from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Robert Guardiola, 45, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport for 11 counts of sexual conduct with a minor and sexual abuse.
In September 2013 it is alleged that Guardiola was reported to have sexually abused and molested children under the age of fifteen repeatedly during the course of a few years.
During this investigation and prior to the indictment, Guardiola fled to Mexico. His attempt to avoid prosecution for the charges failed after his arrest on Wednesday.
Deputy U.S. Marshals in Phoenix worked with officials in Mexico. They would develop information on his location and were able to locate and arrest Guardiola.
Mexican authorities arrested Guardiola without incident on Wednesday and he would be deported out of Mexico to Los Angeles, CA.
“This arrest is a great example that fugitives will not find safe haven in Mexico,” stated David P. Gonzales, U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona, in a press release.
