PHOENIX –While winning the lottery sounds pretty awesome, winning a puppy lottery has to be the next best thing.
Maricopa County residents who donate a minimum of $200 will have the opportunity to take home a puppy from the Puppy Mill Rescue Adoption Lottery, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.
The abused and neglected dogs have received veterinary attention for several weeks and are now healthy enough to find a new home. The breeds in the lottery include Chihuahuas, Maltese mixes, Labradoodles and bulldogs.
The date of the lottery has not been determined but applications are due by Aug. 6. Applicants must be county residents and have a valid email and phone number. Winners will be allowed to take home one dog per family.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a Facebook post that he hopes those who aren’t chosen for the lottery consider adopting other dogs.
