PHOENIX — A new appellate court ruling said republishing on the Internet
of an alleged defamation restarted Arizona’s deadline for filing a lawsuit within
one year of publication.
The state Court of Appeals issued its ruling Tuesday in an appeal of a jury
verdict that found a couple liable for defamation resulting from statements
published about another couple.
The lawsuit was filed more than a year after the alleged defamatory statements
were posted online.
However, the appeals court said the defamation lawsuit was allowed. That’s
because the defendants republished the material in question on the
Internet and the lawsuit was filed within a year of republishing.
