MCSO: 2 woman arrested for animal cruelty, neglect

PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say women from New River and
Fountain Hills both have been arrested in cases of animal cruelty or neglect.

They say 61-year-old Heather Phillips was booked into a Phoenix jail Wednesday
on suspicion of 24 misdemeanors and three felony charges of animal neglect.

Sheriff’s officials say 30 miniature horses were found in poor medical care at
Phillips’ home in New River.

Investigators say the horses’ hooves were in such bad condition that many could
barely walk.

Deputies took 24 of the miniatures for immediate veterinarian care and one of
the horses had to be euthanized.

They say 55-year-old Sharon Anne Weber was jailed Tuesday on suspicion of 18
counts of animal cruelty.

She’s a cat rescue volunteer who had at least 50 cats inside her home.
