MESA, Ariz. — Maricopa County authorities have arrested a man accused of
shooting his girlfriend to death in the desert northeast of Mesa.
Sheriff’s officials said 21-year-old Matthew Borja has been booked into
jail on suspicion of one count each of first-degree premeditated murder,
aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment.
They said Borja was confronting 19-year-old Sabrina Vega about an affiliation
before he allegedly fired several shots at her.
Deputies responded after receiving a 911 call just before 6:30 a.m. Thursday
about a shooting south of the Salt River.
