PHOENIX — A Scottsdale auto showroom that was closed for remodeling was ruined by fire early Tuesday morning.
The Mark Kia dealership, near Scottsdale and McDowell roads, went up in flames, causing an estimated $1 million in damage, said owner Joshua Spencer. The roof also collapsed. The business was set to reopen later in the day after undergoing a yearlong remodel.
Smoke lefts a haze over parts of the East Valley and the smell of burned materials was noticeable all the way to State Route 143 in Tempe.
The blaze started shortly after midnight, said fire officials. About 85 firefighters from Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa and Phoenix responded.
Scottsdale Road was closed between Roosevelt Street and McDowell Road.
