PHOENIX — A report from Bankrate.com ranked Arizona as the 16th-best state for retirement.
The report gave Arizona high marks for its weather (fifth in the nation) but its high crime rate (10th-highest) and midtier health care quality (29th) bump it from the top 10.
Bankrate also factored in the cost of living and tax burden.
South Dakota came out on top because of its low tax burden, low crime rate and high wellness score. Rounding out the top five were Colorado, Utah, North Dakota and Wyoming.
The five states that ranked the worst for retirement were New York, West Virginia, Alaska, Arkansas and Hawaii.
